TortenversandWhen I was still in highschool a project we worked on in my art class was to design postcards and send them to members of the class. The recipient could add to the design and mail it back or leave it in its original state. Only one rule was to follow. The word *Tortenversand* had to be printed on the postcard somewhere (you can barely see it in the two postcards above). about

consumptionSometimes you produce, sometimes you consume. Since the last time I posted I basically only consumed. Music, movies, books. I had a wonderful Easter weekend meeting with friends from Berlin out in the countryside. We (*while talking to a friend I realized that one uses the word *spend* for time and money in English. I'll try not to use it with *time* too often from now on.) about

Homo LudensI found an old copy (published in 1956) of *Homo Ludens* by Johan Huizinga on the fleamarket this weekend. The book itself is lovely - a wonderful cover and it smells so ... wise. You know, the way old books smell. about

simply complainingI don't worry much. And if I do it's usually in the last minute before the big crash. Well, looks like I missed the last minute this time... about

goodbye, Mojo! The Mojo Club is closing its doors this weekend - forever. But they've been saying that for over a year now... it does look like they really mean it this time, though. about

touchedI just watched one of the most beautiful, yet most disturbing movie. The Center of the World directed by Wayne Wang. Beautiful pictures (and colors!), great acting, best soundtrack (Laika's Black Cat Bone is the first song)... but oh so disturbing! about

day offOn some days it just makes my head spin to think about what I should do, what I have to do, what people want me to do. This is one of these days. And I almost got into the worst mood ever. But then I decided to take a day off from social obligations and instead settled on supporting a local product. Cheers! about

about mild .. err, I meant ... meI once read an article about how intelligent people make more mistakes when talking because they just know more words and think too fast for their own mouths to form the sentence. What a relief! I now feel less stupid whenever words come out wrong and grammar seems to have lost its meaning. In other news, I've been thinking about adding an about page to my site lately. But since this whole blog is sort of about me I don't think it's necessary. Instead I will just add a random fact about me to my entries - starting today. about

blog recoveryI set up a new blog for my friends from college yesterday. And I totally messed up my own blog and guestbook. Therefore, pixel and I spent all day (and her night) file saving and re-installing. And we had fun doing it! Go figure! Oh, and I upgraded to MT 2.63 and added a few links to the sidebar.

place and timeI watched a documentary about how TV affects our brain by Peter Entell on arte last night. And I got the same feeling I had when I saw Thomas Struth's work at a museum a few years ago: Being watched, being caught, being more aware of the current situation and my actions. And it's not like I discovered anything new here but it again reminded me of how important the setting and surrounding is for any piece of art. I am sure the same content would have impressed me less if I would have read it in an article. And the photograph would have been less memorable if I'd only seen it in a book. Besides the surrounding I also think that the time we take to look at things has a certain influence on our perception. Have you ever noticed how strange and alien-like eyebrows look if you really pay attention to them? Or (still my favourite!) how a simple word doesn't make any sense at all after a while whenever you search for the right font to go with that headline? It just turns into shapes and spaces, no meaning left. Talking about time... you know you are getting old when your Mom thinks you should try her "intensive anti-wrinkle and firming care".
