living in a spider house

I believe that it is appropriate to say 'happy new year' all throughout January....
Happy New Year, all!

Remember how I wrote about how much 2004 sucks? Well, 2005 felt so much better. Until Sunday, when I almost burnt down my kitchen. Actually, the only thing that did burn was a pot full of oil, but believe me when I say that is scary (and smelly) enough. I was able to isolate the burning item in the middle of my kitchen (and I only have a little scar on my left hand from doing that) but I was unable to put the lid on it because the flame was almost as tall as I am. So I called the fire department for the first time.
It's not as bad as it looked at first, but I sure have to clean the entire place, wash all the dishes (and maybe clothes) and paint the entire apartment (which I was planning to do this summer but not in January.Brrrr.)
Oh, and I couldn't believe how many spider webs I have here! You can see them all very clearly now for they are all black. It felt like living in a huge spider web the last days.

Eeek! I'm glad that you're okay. Gah, cleaning everything is not so fun :\ If I lived there, I'd sure help!

Gah, Now you have me wondering what my ceilings and corners would look like if all the spiderwebs turned black.

MINA!!! Welcome back. Don't go getting yourself all on fire now that you're blogging again.

The spider webs look cool, leave 'em, I say!

Most of the spider webs are gone, Kyle. I only left a few in case someone from the insurance company wants to have a look at the damage (and the spider webs are an excellent proof of how far the smoke got).
Unfortunately, it is as bad as it looked at first. The walls have to be washed first to get rid off the oil. And that's something you can't really do yourself. My Mom came over to help me clean the worst the last days (we spent hours and hours cleaning dishes! I have way too many.) but it's still a long way until I will feel comfortable in my living room/kitchen.
Thanks for your offer, Kallese :)

Oh, and have I mentioned how glad I am that I knew better than to use water to extinguish the fire? That would have been a really bad explosion.
