cinemania

Cinemania is the best documentary I have ever seen. If you haven't watched it yet you should see it as soon as possible. No, really!
The film shows the lives and obsession of five New Yorker 'cinemanics'. Their entire world is centered around movies. Movie schedules, film festivals, old movies and new movies, movie length.. Besides movies their interests are subways (how long does it take to get from movie theaterA to cinemaB?), hard to digest food (so it won't mess up ones time schedule when one watches 2 - 5 movies a day), music (soundtracks, of course) and books (do i have to mention what they are about?).
The five protagonists are wonderful individuals, the colours are fantastic, beautiful shots and Stereo Total is responsible for the theme song.

Sometimes the best you can do is change your plans and you might end up enjoying one of the best movies ever.

Another good documentary I can highly recommend is Scratch.

I have never been to the movies all by myself. But I hope I will do it one day.

Mina - I hadn't heard of Cinemania before your writeup here, but it sounds right up my alley. I'm hoping it's slated for release on DVD because chances are it's not coming to Beijing anytime soon...

As far as going to the movies by yourself, I think it's actually very enjoyable. I like taking some time to process a good film, so going to the theater by yourself means never having to have an awkward conversation about a movie as soon as it's over! Give it a shot, I'll bet you enjoy it.

I second OT's recommendation. Seeing movies alone is oftentimes quite a nice experience. Of course, it highly depends on the kind of movie... A nice romantic comedy is always better with two. :)
