DON'T...

...ask me why I sound sleepy when you call me before noon on a Saturday. And, please, don't mention proudly that you got up hours ago. Seriously, what exactly have you achieved in the previous hours?
Thinking about it... do you remember that I have ever called you after midnight wondering why you are already in bed?

about
I don't mind if people call me at any time of the day (or night). But I do mind if someone tries to make me live according to their time schedule.

Normally I got my creative moments in the morning and thatīs the time when Iīm normally awake. Ok, last night I was only awake until 02.00 am, but i was allready awake before noon. Nope ... i donīt agree! ;-)

Wooot! I didn't think there was much to argue about my entry but I just spent a long time IMing with guna. Now I feel like I should explain it some more.

First of all, I want to point out that I was talking about a Saturday, not a week-day. I was also talking about (or to) a specific person. And I am sure that this person is not reading my blog. Nevertheless, I don't think it is necessary to name anyone.
The *about* paragraph is more general because I wanted to say that, yes, call me at any time you like but, please, don't tell me I should be awake and alert just because you are.
Basically, (if you wish to look at my entry in a more general way) all I was trying to say is that people live on different time schedules.
And I know that there are certain *rules* during the week. Stores aren't open day and night (at least not in Europe), if you want to talk to someone about job-related issues you have to do it during business hours etc.
But even that is changing nowadays. Freelancing in the (web)design field often requires applications via email. If you are working on a current project you have a deadline and it is often up to you if you prefer working during the day or at night. Most of the time you'll end up working all day and all night. Some of my friends work only at night.
Ok, back to the personal aspect (I wasn't really talking about job issues in my entry - got carried away, sorry).
guna was also wondering about the *seriously, what exactly have you achieved*. I added that sentence because I actually asked that question once and didn't get an answer.
Some people think getting up early and working from 9 to 5 makes you a better person according to the rules of society. And if that is your time schedule I'm the last one to question it. What I do question is the *better person* part. Getting up early does not make you a better person. Neither have you achieved anything only because you got up early. It is simply your way of living. And I respect that and do not call you late on a Friday night wondering why you sound sleepy. All I am asking for is the same respect in return.

Hopefully, I made myself more clear to you , dear reader. If not, feel free to argue with me.

I think many people associate waking up early with productivity, but that is a fallacy

Where i used to work, the product architects strolled in in the afternoon and then stayed till 10pm. They said they thought better at night, so they might as well sleep at other times. These were some of the most super creative/productive people in the company!

Many people, I know, hit a wall in the afternoon. Their energy drops and they have to revitalize themselves to keep going through coffee or sugar or something else. What these people really need is a short afternoon nap. But, unfortunately, even though this would raise their overall productivity, this would never happen. Because, of course, our society associates sleep with slothfulness. And so they sit dumbly at their desk, accomplishing little.

I know that some people feel strong and vital and creative in the mornings. If they get up late they feel that they have wasted too much of the day and must spend the rest of it trying to catch up. I can understand that. It works for them. But for some reason they also feel the need to spread this feeling like an evangelist.

We dont all work on the same clocks or on the same schedules. We adapt to each other as much as we can, we make compromises because that is how society works in general - a broad set of compromises.

I so agree with your original post, Mina, for what its worth. As someone working graveyards, there is nothing more annoying to me than someone who: A) *knows* I work graveyards and B) calls me at 1 in the afternoon just to chat. It's equivalent to me calling them at 1am and saying "Hi, I'm on my lunch break and just called to see how you're doing!"

I also tend to stay up late and sleep in as late as possible on the weekends, so as to not screw up my "up-all-night" schedule for the week. I can't tell you how many people seem to get off on saying "You are just waking up?? It's noon! Why, I've already washed my car, finished my laundry and cleaned my entire house!" I'm always dying to say, "well I stayed up all night throughout the week and set up three networks, brought back 2 downed VPNs and upgraded sendmail!"

But I don't. Because they would probably just look at me strangely.
