Homo Ludens

I found an old copy (published in 1956) of *Homo Ludens* by Johan Huizinga on the fleamarket this weekend. The book itself is lovely - a wonderful cover and it smells so ... wise. You know, the way old books smell.
The book is about play-elements in culture and sounds promising. More on that later (I should read it first!).
Further weekend activities included reading "La Prophétie des Pierres" by Flavia Bujor (she was 12 when she wrote that book - amazing!), having coffee with friends in the sun and falling asleep on the grass after riding until Bojan, the horse decided to check on me and woke me up.

I am always late because I usually enjoy doing whatever I do at that moment so much that I can't imagine anything else could be as much fun... until I do something else... and then I am late again because...

Nothing quite like the smell of a good old book.

I have an extremely old Websters dictionary that is absolutely falling apart - it smells of old musty paper (yet isnt damp - I still use it in preference to 2 other 'new' dictionaries people (whom I suspect feel sorry for me having such a moth eaten tome) have given me, simply because I like to know what the original meaning of the word is.

i.e. Nice; from latin, nescius: ignorant. So nice is defined as ignorant and foolish.

I always smile a secret smile to me when at work and describing colleagues.. I say "such and such a person is nice" and then grin from ear to ear :)
