place and timeI watched a documentary about how TV affects our brain by Peter Entell on arte last night. And I got the same feeling I had when I saw Thomas Struth's work at a museum a few years ago: Being watched, being caught, being more aware of the current situation and my actions. And it's not like I discovered anything new here but it again reminded me of how important the setting and surrounding is for any piece of art. I am sure the same content would have impressed me less if I would have read it in an article. And the photograph would have been less memorable if I'd only seen it in a book. Besides the surrounding I also think that the time we take to look at things has a certain influence on our perception. Have you ever noticed how strange and alien-like eyebrows look if you really pay attention to them? Or (still my favourite!) how a simple word doesn't make any sense at all after a while whenever you search for the right font to go with that headline? It just turns into shapes and spaces, no meaning left. Talking about time... you know you are getting old when your Mom thinks you should try her "intensive anti-wrinkle and firming care". Yes I have noticed that about words - when my son repeats "mommy" over and over and over it ceases to be a word to me and simply becomes a sound. The art is great! You have opened my eyes to Thomas Struth's work and I love it. Thank you. Now we need a picture of you looking at it in a museum. :) pixel, April 1, 2003 01:32 PMOh! and you are nowhere NEAR old. Don't be silly. pixel, April 1, 2003 01:33 PMSHOULD WE ALSO TALK VERY LOUDLY TO SAVE THE BATTERIES ON THE HEARING AID? :) Traducer, April 1, 2003 08:55 PMOh, dahling! You should listen to mother! I use the same stuff and it works wonders on my skin. I'll tell anyone who will listen... if you have the means, I highly recommend this product. Once I hit 15 I just knew I couldn't let my perfect skin come to harm. Kyle, April 2, 2003 01:39 AMAll moms do that, it doesn't matter what age you are! Selva, April 4, 2003 11:48 PM |
